I have said many times, that I will NOT spend the 4th of July here in town. Guess I learned my lesson and ate my words this year. We stayed here, in town, for the 4th. It was fun and we tried to pack as much as we could into the day, but it still isn't the same as going to the beach. I guess old habits die hard. The kiddos were all good sports and made me realize, it doesn't matter where you are, it's who you're with. To start the day we froze our hind quarters off by going ice skating. How many people can say that!? We grabbed a few friends to come with us and spent the better part of the morning chilling out...literally!
Just look at those happy faces!
After stopping for icy cold milk shakes and onion rings, we headed home for some afternoon swimming and small family BBQ with the same friends and then off to the games. We were trying to find the best place to watch fireworks. The past couple of times that we've had to stay in town we discovered that options are few and far between. I obviously hadn't asked the right people, because I heard of some fantastic places afterwords, but this year we took the kids to a Diamond Back's baseball game that featured fireworks after the game. We thought this was a brilliant idea. Baseball and fireworks all in an air conditioned stadium! WRONG! It was hotter than..., but we had fun and made memories and ate a ton of junk. So, I guess you could say it was a success!
I still don't want to spend the 4th here in town ever again, but I'm sure we will. I am just grateful that we have a day to celebrate and I have this great family to celebrate it with!
