Setting Goals ... Panning for Gold!

I decided a while ago that I needed to do a few things around Arizona with my children instead of just jumping in the car and heading for California. So my goal this school year is on school breaks and early release, take the children somewhere new. Now sometimes this may just mean a new park, but this last Friday it meant going to the Arizona Museum of Natural History. We invited Wendy to join us and headed out. I think the highlights were watching the live alligator and snapping turtle get fed dead rats. Well, the kids loved it, I threw up a little in my mouth and was queasy for a long time afterwards. They also loved walking around in the jails, and Megan and Haley informed me that they are glad that they are girls, because if they have to go to jail they will get a potty and the boys don't. (Isn't it funny what they remember?) We also love panning for gold - we are all filthy rich now! Well, maybe just filthy! and the best part was becoming part of an old western movie - we couldn't even pull them away from the blue screen! They were so funny to watch! The best reward was hearing my children recount their day to their dad and tell him, "it was the best day ever!"

Here we are in the "hands-on" center - dinosaur rubbings!

Rubbing the dinosaurs!

Kate and Nathan putting Flat Stanely in space.

Watching intently as the alligator ate - gross!

Miss Megan in jail - excited about having the potties!

Panning for gold (flecks that is!) Look closely, you can see the glitter!

I knew I was raising movie stars!  Look at those faces - they should be in pictures!

It was a fun day - something different - something new - something to remember!

My boys informed me after our last camping trip that it was better than Disneyland. So I ask you, what the heck am I spending so much money on these vacations for when they are happy with camping? I'd better learn to love it, quick! I can start saving up for their braces instead! BTW, the pics of the kids are so cute!!
