Pine Wood Derby and a Hakka

In February, the scouts are one busy group.  They start out the year with the annual Pinewood Derby.  Jeff and Nate really worked hard on their car this year, even going as far as taking it to California to have Grandpa help carve out the design and get it weighed down perfectly.  The girls even got to make one a race it too.  Although, honestly, I think Jeff was more excited about doing a "no rules" car than the girls were about racing.  Our scout leaders are awesome and always put on a great show for these boys!

Then the following month there was the Blue and Gold banquet.  This year the boys performed the Hakka (compliments of a wonderful leader who hails from Hawaii!)  They were AWESOME!!!  Thrilling actually!
This year the theme was Polynesian, thus the war dance, and we talked Nathan into decorating a hula girl cake.  He won the award for Most Unique.  He was a little afraid that the other boys would laugh, but he got kudos for such an awesome cake and it was the first one gone...not to mention all the sisters of scouts loved that there was a cake for them!

Nathan sure loves this scouting thing and I love his leaders.  Really, it's a win win for all of us!
