Family Search

In a recent lesson in church (thank you Brig), I have been motivated to update this blog.  There has been a push for everyone to get on Family Search and find names to do temple work.  Yesterday, we had a special family home evening to try to interest my children to get on and find family members, but mostly to get on and see the work, stories and pictures that have already been posted by members of our family that are fun and exciting to learn about.  I got the idea here.  We watched this cute video to start:
Then we moved to the computer and I found some fun ancestors with stories and pictures.  I asked them if they thought they looked like anyone they saw there.  They instantly saw my Grandfather Dunyon and thought it was my dad.  I told them that my grandfather's name was Joy and instantly my kids remarked, "That's why grandpa is called Little Joy!"  It was so fun to see the light in their eyes.  At this point I hoped they had caught the bug to log in and at least look to the past, so I asked our dear friends to take it a step further and help us learn how to find family members and attach them to our family tree.  We all probably spent about an hour clicking, searching, and laughing.  In the end, we found a grandfather on Jeff's side that we didn't even know!  We also ended up with a TON more questions that will hopefully keep the spark lit and motivate us to do more.  We set goals as a family to try to log in at least once a week and research or at least read about family members.  My personal goal is to sit for at least 20 minutes a day and blog about us.  Jeff and the kids really love reading the blogs.  It is our online journal, and as I sat and taught the lesson, I realized that in many years from now, my great great grandchildren will want to know my stories, see my pictures and listen to what they're saying.  So please bare with me as I catch up on missed posts from the last year.  I originally thought of just picking up with the current and going forward, but I would miss so much.  So, thank you again Brig...and here we go...into the past!
