A dying breed

I've read a couple of friends' blogs, and they have both mentioned the same thought I've had...blogging is petering out. Very few people I know blog anymore, even fewer read them. We've progressed by way of the devil (Facebook) and other multimedia which I can't bring myself to participate in yet.  I have been remiss in even actually posting on my own blog, as life seems to be getting crazier and the few minutes of "spare" time I do have is spent doing mindless "Calgon take me away" activities.  But, because I no longer "scrap", I blog.  And because this is also my journal of sorts, I have made the resolution to get back on track so that generations from now, maybe I will be mentioned in some primary sharing time...lofty aspirations I know.  That being said, here are a few posts, mostly house-keeping ones, for your reading enjoyment.

Here is my big baby girl, 2 minutes before being subject to torture: she got braces this day and would not allow me to take a picture of the after.  I think her mouth hurt more than she thought it would.  She even passed up the warm chocolate chip cookie they offered afterwards.  I was a nice mom and made homemade mac and cheese for dinner that night and then soup, fondue and spaghetti for the next few nights until her teeth weren't quite as tender.  I even let her stay home from school the next day to eat ice cream and jell-o.
Now that they are less painful, she is changing out the bands each appointment with fun new colors to match outfits or activities, like her costume for the Cultural Celebration (future post).
In other "Paige" news.  We found out she received an award from the Veterans of Arizona for a piece she wrote as an assignment in English.  They were supposed to write a short paper about what patriotism meant to them.  We had no idea it was being submitted for a contest.  She won second place out of all the Jr. Highs in the East Valley, got recognized at school by some retired Veterans, and received a check for $75!

She was super surprised (as were mom and dad!) and was almost in tears when they presented her the award.  Let's be honest, I was too!  Way to go Paige!

Next up, Pinewood Derby and some other house keeping items.
